An Open Letter to Caterina Fake
The problem I’m having with this letter, Caterina Fake, is trying to peg you down. With the others it was ‘easy,’ there was some kind of over-arching idea I could concentrate on and expand on and on and on. But with you, Caterina Fake, I’m confused.
Yes, you have co-founded Flickr and there is much to be said for all that it’s done; there’s the whole, “I’m pleased to see a woman that has kicked some ass in the technological field”; you read ; you make art; you write; you’re good at seeing the way the internet works as a social system, social networks, community, which is like standing in the center of a busy thoroughfare for me. So, I guess, I should try to make some cohesion with all these things.
Or maybe not. The cohesion is you, Caterina Fake. I think you should buy a ‘C,’ or an ‘F’ before Flickr does, because you are all these things; and Simon and I combined, are at least half of them.
You should invest in an ‘F’ because, as I’ve mentioned before, we really want someone who can prove to us what Generous Alphabet can do. And sure, that may sound like some self-fulfilling prophesy, but it’s true. The smarter the person, and it would be awesome if it were a woman, who could think of taking us on, just as their own ideas have taken off, well, that’s what we’re after.
So maybe, Caterina Fake, you can envision—because of all that you have attempted and succeeded at or failed at—what we can do for you. Caterina Fake, buy an ‘F’ or a ‘C’ today!
