Libero Pensiero

Man In Via Di Porta Angelica.

I want to photograph religion as a divisive force with a focus on, but not limited to, the Vatican and the Catholic Church’s influence in Rome. This is an ongoing project.

Religion and free thinking is something I’ve become more interested in over time and especially after reading Jiddu Krishnamurti’s The First and Last Freedom.

I need to think deeply about how to make this project, Libero Pensiero, work. I need to think about how to balance the obvious and the hidden meanings portrayed in each photograph, which together with others, and in the best of cases, also alone, tell a story.

I also need to not think.

I need to stay loose when taking pictures and not think about the meanings during the act of photographing. Are meanings not ultimately created by each viewer, anyway? Is a role of the photographer, of the artist, simply to make others think?

I must let the subconscious take over and flow in this river of life. This is the most difficult part. And as Cartier-Bresson has said, lucidity doesn’t come with words.

Thank you, David. I’m off for a walk!
